Course Purpose
Taking factual statements from witnesses are an essential part of the investigative process whereby personal experiences of events are transformed into the written word. Information contained in a factual statement will, invariably, determine appropriate courses of action and in some cases, influence the outcome of an investigation.
In many investigations, factual statements taken from persons since deceased or incapacitated will be the only source of evidence available in reaching a satisfactory determination. In addition, factual statements must be obtained in accord with legally acceptable practices and, in some instances, specific legal requirements.
In addition to their evidentiary value in administrative, commercial or judicial determinations, factual statements are an invaluable resource for later policy formulation and research.
The Factual Statements Course provides a range of topics selected to help those who are required, as part of their work practices, to take written factual statements that provide an accurate account of a person’s experience of an event under investigation.
